Team Bluejay
Team Bluejay is back to participate and, with your help, DOMINATE Fish For A Cure 2026. Please support us in participating in the Paul C. Dettor Captain's Challenge in efforts to support the Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center's Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute.
Fish For A Cure
One cause. Big impact.
Fish For A Cure is an annual fishing tournament based out of Annapolis, MD fundraising for the Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center's Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute. Built and grown by local Annapolis legends, the Paul C. Dettor Captain's Challenge brings both local and traveling participants to Annapolis with one goal in mind: supporting friends and family in the greater Annapolis area who have been and are being affected by life-changing diagnoses of cancer.
Every dollar raised benefits the Cancer Survivorship Program at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center's Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute, supporting patients and families right here in Annapolis. The tournament raised a record $1.2 million in 2025 and more than $7.7 million since its inception in 2006.
Meet Team Bluejay
Team Bluejay dates back to the origins of the Fish For A Cure tournament. Our captain & founder of Fish For A Cure, Greg Lilly, has grown and evolved Team Bluejay into what it is today — a group of Annapolis & Maryland natives, fellow fishermen who also happen to be outstanding men & women, and a handful of Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse (and women's basketball) alumni.
Cancer doesn't care who you are or where you're from — unfortunately, it affects each and every one of us in one way or another. It doesn't wait around for you to be strong enough to fight it or for you to be able to afford the treatment, and it certainly does not take any time outs. Which is why there is no better time to give and support than RIGHT NOW.
Fish For A Cure's goal is to make sure that there is no excuse for a stone to be left unturned throughout the treatment process. If something can be done, it is up to each of us to ensure that the resources are available so that it CAN be done. Team Bluejay asks that you think of those that you know who are battling cancer and consider donating to Fish For A Cure to help others continue their fight.

This organization has been in my life for as long as I can remember. Every year it provides me with an opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new ones, and do my part in helping those who need it. I fish in remembrance of loved ones lost, and the ones who are still fighting their battles.

Getting to spend the weekend with some of my former teammates and closest friends makes it an event to look forward to every year, but what makes it especially meaningful is knowing that it all supports such a great cause. One of the things I love most about F4AC is seeing how much the event has grown over the years. It started with a group of friends coming together to make a difference, and it's exciting to be a part of the next generation continuing the tradition and helping it grow.

It’s pretty special to see how much the event has grown and how many people continue to support it. I’m proud to be a part of it and to have a small role in raising money for such an important cause.
